Service Description: The mission of the Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County is to improve the quality of life of persons who are directly affected by Alzheimer's disease and other dementias * the Society's goals are to provide information, education and public awareness, family and caregiver support, funding for research and advocacy

Supports for people with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, and their caregivers through seminars, workshops and training sessions * one-on-one care plan consultations with health professionals * advanced care planning for future health care needs * member of the North Simcoe Muskoka Community Support Services Collaborative and the North Simcoe Muskoka Dementia Network.

First Link - Networking for people affected by Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia, to a community of learning, services and support * one-on-one counselling * caregiver support groups * referral to community resources by phone, drop in, or home visit * First Link Learning Series offered regularly in various locations

  • Medic Alert's Safely Home Registry
  • information and education sessions for persons with dementia and their family members
  • education sessions for staff in health care facilities and agencies
  • public awareness presentations

Special Events and Fundraising Activities
  • January is Alzheimer Awareness Month
  • three walks for Alzheimer's held in the spring (Midland, Orillia & Barrie locations)
  • Tag Days held annually during the summer throughout the County of Simcoe
  • Alzheimer Coffee Break, a nation-wide fundraising and awareness event is held in September each year
  • Bradford Greenhouses Fundraising Program: donate 5% of sales (some items excluded) between Apr 15 - Oct 15 to the Alzheimer Society if the cashier is advised before the purchases are rung through
