Salary Range is $27.12 - $27.65 per hour, with 2-weeks of vacation to start. In this full-time position, the successful candidate will be required to work varied shifts that may include nights, weekends, and holidays to maintain the integrity and safety operation of all building related systems.

The Building Operator/Plant Mechanic is responsible for installing, maintaining and operating health centre systems and insures reliable utilities. The Building Operator/Plant Mechanic must be able to diagnose, trouble shoot and enact mechanical, electrical, HVAC and computerized systems repairs. May also need to assume other trade duties (i.e. plumber) as needed.


• Suitable Post-Secondary Diploma, or, Certification in an accredited technology or trade program (such as Electrician, Building Operator, Operating / Power Engineer, BES, etc.), or suitable equivalent work experience required.
• A minimum valid certification of qualification of 4th class issued under the authority of the Operating Engineers Act of the Province of Ontario and/or BES Level 1 (Level 2 with experience).
• WHMIS, OHSA, ESA, TSSA requirements.

• Five (5) plus years’ of experience in a hospital, plant, technical or construction environment preferred.
• Experience using hand and power tools and willingness to learn new tasks, techniques and equipment including computerized monitoring systems.
• Experience working productively and in concert with outside contractors and vendors to ensure building systems functions are maintained.
• Familiarity and willingness to learn and become proficient in the reading and operation of modern fire panel, elevator, BAS, HVAC and mechanical systems.
• Ability to acquire and apply knowledge of building codes, fire regulations, with basic ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, Auto CAD, operating manuals.

• Willingness to work independently to prioritize a wide variety of preventative maintenance and demand call maintenance tasks in a fast-pace and dynamic environment.
• Capable of providing superior customer service responding to routine, urgent and emergency demand calls as, and when, assigned in an effort to safeguard the efficient and safe operation of the health centre.
• Strong communication skills, both verbally and written, in order to deliver outstanding customer service.
• Knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
• Exhibits an ability and attitude relative to the spirit of caring and reflect the core values of the health centre with respect to patient privacy, diligent execution of duties, in addition to the overall integrity and safety of patients and staff.

• Willingness to acquire and/or maintain trade certificates, designations, licenses, etc. and attend training courses, workshops as may be required.
• Ability to respond to and support emergency situations where safeguarding staff and patient safety is paramount.
• Desire to work in a progressive environment geared towards change, innovation and optimizing efficiencies.
• Willingness to acknowledge and abide organizational and department policies and procedures aimed at optimizing available resources.

Salary:  $27.50-$28.04/Hour
