COVID-19 outbreak confirmed on CGMH's Surgical Unit

In collaboration with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) a COVID-19 outbreak has been declared on Collingwood General & Marine Hospital's (CGMH) Surgical unit.

Three patients and 1 CGMH employee on the Surgical unit have tested positive for COVID-19.

Three patients have been isolated, enhanced cleaning measures are being implemented and contact tracing is underway, as well as the swabbing of all surgical inpatients at this time.

"The health and safety of our patients, employees, credentialed staff and the community remains our top priority, and we continue to work closely with the SMDHU during this time," says Lauren Tindall, VP Patient Experience. "In addition, CGMH's Infection Prevention and Control and Occupational Health teams are conducting a full investigation to determine any risk to other patients and CGMH team members on the Surgical unit."

At this time, the Surgical unit will be closed to all visitation except in the case of palliative end of life patients, where passing is imminent. One designated essential care giver may be permitted. This may change as more information becomes available.

CGMH thanks all employees and credentialed staff for their dedication and continued efforts during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, all while they continue to provide outstanding care to CGMH patients and the South Georgian Bay community.

At this time admissions to the Surgical unit will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
