SIMCOE MUSKOKA – As COVID-19 continues to circulate, although at a lower level, it is recommended that everyone stay up to date with their COVID-19 vaccinations. Staying up to date for most people means you have received your primary series and at least one COVID-19 booster dose (original or bivalent) on or after September 1, 2022. In general, individuals are eligible to receive a booster if six months has passed since their last booster or COVID-19 infection.
At this time, given the lower circulation of the COVID-19 virus, the Ontario Chief Medical Officer of Health has recommended that individuals who are eligible now for a booster should consider delaying their COVID-19 booster until fall 2023. This is when the respiratory season begins and delaying the booster until the fall would maximize protection against COVID-19 outcomes when peak circulation of the virus is expected. A booster dose prior to the fall may be appropriate for certain individuals based on their unique health status and personal situation. If you are unsure, discuss this with your health care provider. Recommendations for fall booster doses will be available closer to fall 2023.
