RSV outbreak declared on Mental Health Inpatient unit at OSMH

(Orillia, ON) – A RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) outbreak has been declared on C6, the Mental Health Inpatient unit at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH).

The outbreak was declared in conjunction with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) following positive test results of 4 patients on the unit.

C6 is closed to visitors while additional testing is being done and enhanced cleaning measures are being implemented.

RSV causes infections of the lungs and respiratory tract. RSV can cause severe infection in some people, especially premature infants, older adults, people with heart and lung disease, or anyone with a weak immune system.
